Tips For Fireworks


Autumn is upon us and as exciting fireworks are for us humans, some of our beloved pets may disagree. 50% of Dog & Cat owners say Fireworks cause their pets distress and we should not ignore this problem. 

Planning ahead can help your beloved pets cope with firework season it may not completely resolve the fear but it can help them get by easier. Signs of fear in pets can range from trembling, panting , pacing, hiding, being clingy, distructive and much more. Find some helpful ips and products below:


  • If you have a dog walk it during daylight hours to avoid firework times
  • Avoid letting your pet outdoors when fireworks are likely to go off
  • Close curtains and windows to muffle the noise. Closing curtains will also prevent flashes from outside
  • Turn your TV up or put some music on for your pet to drown out the noise
  • Create a quite/hiding space to allow them to feel in control. Provide familiar items like toys or clothing.
  • Prodive you pets with new toys or treats to be used as a distration
  • Ask your vet about calming diffusers/sprays. These products release chemicals into the room to aid with fear.
  • For smaller animals partly cover cages and aviaries with blankets to help muffle the noise.
  • Provide extra bedding to enable your pet to borrow
  • Comfort/play with your pet to help it relax, unless you think they will harm themselves therefor leave them alone.
  • If your pet in the past has been extremely frightened it could be useful to speak to a vet about metication to help.
